Dutch and Belgian Formula One driver Max Verstappen recently revealed that he and his girlfriend, Brazilian-German model and writer Kelly Piquet, are expecting their first child together. This is Piquet’s second baby. She has a daughter named Penelope with the Russian Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat.
Are Max Verstappen and girlfriend Kelly Piquet expecting their first child?
Verstappen and Piquet took to social media on Friday, December 6, to make a joint announcement about the pregnancy. “Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way,” they wrote in the caption of a photo depicting their hands placed on Piquet’s belly. “We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle,” they added.
Verstappen met Piquet for the first time in 2016 in Monaco, when the former was 19 and the latter 26. They had dinner together along with Piquet’s brother Nelson Jr. “Something magical happened that night,” Piquet told Vogue Netherlands in a December 2022 interview. (via US Weekly)
In 2017, Piquet began dating Kvyat. They were together for about two years until their separation in 2019.
Max Verstappen and his girlfriend Kelly Piquet began their relationship in 2020. But it wasn’t until January 2021 that the couple made their relationship Instagram official. “Happy New Year everyone,” Verstappen posted. “Let’s make 2021 a year to remember in many ways. Wishing you all success, love and happiness just as I found mine.”
Notably, Piquet is the daughter of Formula One legend Nelson Piquet. She was born in the South of France and spent a considerable part of her childhood there. She studied International Relations at the Marymount Manhattan College in New York City before working as a model, columnist, and PR professional.
Meanwhile, Verstappen was born in Hasselt, Belgium. Just like the Piquet family, the Verstappens have a long history with motorsport. Max began kart racing when he was four years old and has been active in Formula One since the mid-2010s. As part of the Red Bull team, he has won four consecutive Formula One World Drivers’ Championship titles between 2020 and 2024.
