Just a few months after the premiere of the fourth installment of The Boys, actor Karl Urban has come out to share a Season 5 behind-the-scenes photo of himself as Billy Butcher. Ever since the last episode of Season 4 aired, the show’s creators have mostly maintained radio silence over updates regarding its final chapter. As such, this reveal from Urban comes as a happy surprise for the fans of The Boys franchise.
Karl Urban shares a bloody look at Billy Butcher in The Boys Season 5
The actor took to social media to give viewers a glimpse at Billy Butcher in The Boys Season 5, showcasing a bloody look of his character.
In the said Instagram post, Urban’s face is splattered with blood as he holds up five fingers to refer to The Boys’ fifth season. The blurry background also showcases a tiny source of light shining over Urban.
While blood-laden scenes are a common occurrence in The Boys, the stakes would be higher than ever for every character in the show’s ultimate installment. Therefore, a scene with Billy Butcher covered in red could indicate a major death in The Boys Season 5.
The end of the fourth season saw Antony Starr’s Homelander take a step further in his plan for world domination. He also succeeds in capturing all the members of the Boys, with Erin Moriarty’s Annie January, AKA Starlight, being the only escapee. On the other hand, Urban’s Billy Butcher finally embraces his darker self, personified by Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Joe Kessler. He then proceeds to embark on a destructive journey to commit a superhero genocide.
While The Boys has mostly strayed away from its source material, most of the appearing characters end up meeting their makers in the comics. On top of that, showrunner Eric Kripke has stated in an earlier interview with TV Guide that “Anyone who dies in Season 5 will richly deserve it.” This suggests fans can expect a bloodbath in the show’s concluding season.
