“Bluey” fans were ecstatic to see the balloon back on its feet (more suitably, in the air) during the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. On Wednesday, the massive balloon of the beloved children’s character popped during inflation along Central Park West ahead of the parade. Reportedly, witnesses confirmed hearing a loud popping noise coming from the balloon and feeling a blow of gas in their faces that afternoon. A subsequent examination uncovered a large hole in one of the balloon’s paws that caused it to deflate.
Beloved ‘Bluey’ balloon was back in action after popping the day before Thanksgiving Day Parade
Despite the initial roadblocks, beloved “Bluey” was all fixed and ready just in time for Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The New York Post reported that organizers worked additional hours to patch the balloon’s paw-hole that caused it to deflate only one day before the event. “Bluey” is one of 22 huge balloons to participate in the extravagant display in New York City for the annual holiday parade. Other exhibits included 34 floats and seven wheeled “balloonicles.”
Before that, the NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell assured fans about “Bluey’s” timely recovery for the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Chell wrote on his X (formerly Twitter), guaranteeing fans that “the balloons are ready” for the annual parade. He further noted, “I’m glad to report that Bluey is recovering!” reassuring that the “Bluey” balloon “is going to play like a champion tomorrow.” Alongside the text, the Chief of Patrol posted two photos — one of the famous cartoon character and another of prominent NYPD officials posing in front of Macy’s balloons.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade attendees cheered the “Bluey” balloon and shared photos and videos of the viral moment on X. The platform saw an influx of posts comprising the balloon. One user wrote,” She has risen baby girl,” explaining how the balloon “popped yesterday during inflation – but she’s fixed and ready to fly.” Another praised the “loud contingent of cheers from the crowd, Bluey and her keepy uppy balloon!” The post also mentioned that her paw looked good during the parade following the “inflation scare.”
The annual event also witnessed rainfall during the cloudy day.
