Amid the roaring success of director Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked: Part One,” Lena Waithe celebrated the film’s achievements on her Instagram Stories to show her support for Cynthia Erivo, who plays the role of Elphaba. Waithe reshared Idina Menzel’s post, which featured Erivo. Menzel introduced Elphaba in the 2003 Broadway musical. She also made a worthy cameo appearance in the newly released screen adaptation. The actor posed with Erivo and fellow actors, honoring the “sisterhood.”
Waithe’s Instagram reposts included posts on Cynthia Erivo by Ebony Magazine and Essence, which commended the actor’s portrayal of Elphaba. The Emmy Award-winning producer also reshared Deadline’s report about the film’s box office collections. The outlet stated that the film opened to $114 million domestically and $164.2 million worldwide. Waithe also shared a tribute to Erivo from the members of her production house, Hillman Grad.
This isn’t the first time that Lena Waithe has supported her partner, Cynthia Erivo. After the “Wicked: Part One” release over the weekend, she took to her Instagram Stories to share reviews, posts, and more. The producer uploaded a video of Erivo performing a Christmas song. She has also shown her support by attending the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles. Waithe wore a dapper green suit for the L.A. premiere with a white shirt underneath and a black necktie.
Waithe and Erivo, who have kept their relationship out of the spotlight, seemingly confirmed it in 2022. According to E! News, the two held hands while attending the Alvin Ailey Spirit Gala. Meanwhile, after delivering a stunning performance as Elphaba in “Wicked: Part One,” Cynthia Erivo has also been celebrating the movie’s success her own way. She has been posting behind-the-stage moments, pictures with cast members, and her interviews on social media.
