Selena Gomez shares how she hides her identity while auditioning
Selena Gomez recently went candid about her acting career in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She expressed that knowing what people would want to see her doing was “the biggest challenge” she experienced “as an actor.” While discussing her audition process for a project, the actor revealed, “If they think I’m too young for a part, or whatever the case may be, we use a tactic.” The singer elaborated that she and her team make sure not to disclose that she is going for the auditions “so that they just have to accept [Gomez] auditioning.”
Gomez further explained the reason behind this strategy, saying, “Because sometimes even them just hearing that I want to audition, they’ll be like, ‘No, that’s not going to match for what we’re doing.'” The actor continued, “Or it’s, ‘We’re going to hire people that nobody knows,’ and then they hire, like, Austin Butler, and I’m like, ‘Cool.'”
She revealed that when the people behind any project were unaware of her identity, they would let her audition for a role. This strategy “worked” in favor of Selena Gomez in one of her films, which she explained was “because they looked at me as I walked in and I thought I’d lost it immediately because they went, ‘Ooohh.'” However, after she completed the reading, she ended up bagging the role. Gomez disclosed that the audition was for “The Fundamentals of Caring,” starring Paul Rudd.
In the interview, Selena Gomez also discussed the immense success of her new musical film, “Emilia Pérez” and how surprised she was to see it doing so well.
