Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency
On Tuesday, Donald Trump revealed that Elon Musk would work alongside Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump hoped that it would become the current version of “The Manhattan Project.” He expressed that the Republican politicians have envisioned DOGE’s objectives for quite some time.
Musk, for his part, assured that this initiative would “send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!” Meanwhile, Ramaswamy took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to the statement, writing, “We will not go gently, @elonmusk.” In another tweet, he announced that DOGE will begin “crowdsourcing examples of government waste, fraud, & and abuse.”
In his statement, Donald Trump revealed that DOGE would provide counsel outside the confines of the government. As per Reuters, this indicated that both Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s role would be “informal.” Furthermore, Musk will continue to head Tesla, X (formerly Twitter), and SpaceX. Earlier, Trump also announced other key appointments in his cabinet. These include Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, John Ratcliffe as Director of the CIA, and Susie Wiles as Chief of Staff, among others.
The president-elect expressed hope that Musk and Ramaswamy’s leadership while prioritizing efficiency will benefit the lives of all Americans. Trump further announced that their work would conclude by July 4, 2026, on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, making this the “perfect gift” to the country.
