Here’s Where Kamala Harris is and When She Might Speak

Voters are wondering where Kamala Harris is after her refusal to speak on the evening of the election. After it became apparent that she would lose the election, her plans for the night were canceled, and we’ve only heard vague statements about when she’ll address the results. Her silence has left Democrats confused and wondering if she plans to concede or fight the results.

Update (2:23 p.m. EST): According to The Hill, Kamala Harris has called Trump to officially concede the race.

Harris goes silent after election upset puts a damper on her victory plans

Kamala Harris spent election night at her alma mater, Howard University, in Washington, D.C. Here, she held her official election party and planned to announce her victory. However, the Democratic presidential candidate refused to address the crowd of supporters who gathered at Howard after it became apparent that she was losing the election. Instead, she sent campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond to state:

“We still have votes to count, so you won’t hear from the vice president tonight. She will be back here tomorrow. Go H U and go Harris.”

The New York Post reports that Harris supporters stood on the Howard University Yard for up to seven hours waiting to hear from Harris before the announcement was made. The campaign even allegedly cut the audio on monitors showing election results several times as the crowd grew increasingly somber.

The Harris campaign has not made an official statement since the AP called the election in Trump’s favor. However, USA Today reports she plans to address the nation at Howard University around 4 p.m. EST and will formally concede the race.

Some Harris supporters on social media hope that Harris will announce plans to challenge the election. However, that speculation appears to be unfounded. No significant discrepancies in the voting process have been announced, and Trump won by a large enough margin that there’s no questioning his victory is legitimate.
