Michael Jordan Addresses Donald Trump Endorsement Rumors

NBA legend Michael Jordan has finally spoken out about rumors of his Donald Trump endorsement that has been circulating wildly on social media the day before the general election. Searching for Michael Jordan on X, formerly Twitter, reveals post after post after post claiming that the basketball superstar has thrown his support behind the Trump campaign. This claim has garnered enough views that the company who represents Jordan has come out to clarify the record. Here’s whether Jordan has actually endorsed Donald Trump over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Did Michael Jordan endorse Donald Trump for president?

No, Michael Jordan has not endorsed Donald Trump or any presidential candidate in 2024.

Estee Portnoy, the SVP at Jump Management who represents Jordan’s family, has unequivocally stated on X that “there is absolutely no truth to the claim that Michael Jordan has made an endorsement in the presidential election.”

This statement was iterated to the DailyMail, which also points out that he has not backed either candidate and has been private about any political endorsements ever since he retired from the sport.

In the 2020 documentary “The Last Dance,” Jordan explained that he “never thought of [himself] as an activist” and that he “wasn’t a politician when [he] was playing.” Even when his mother asked him to give his support to Harvey Gantt, who was running in the North Carolina senatorial race in 1990, he chose not to. He did, though, “send a contribution to support him.”

On a similar note, singer Nicki Minaj was also the subject of rumors that she has endorsed Trump, though those were quickly debunked as well.

Other basketball superstars, like LeBron James, have announced his support for Kamala Harris on X in a video rebuking Trump’s rhetoric. Former California governor and famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger also supports Harris, while astronaut Buzz Aldrin has endorsed Trump in the election.
