“Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek told PEOPLE, “I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis.” WHO stated that “Colorectal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the colon (large intestine) or rectum” and is “one of the most common types of cancer worldwide.” The report continued, “[Colorectal cancer] can cause severe harm and death” with most cases affecting people over the age of 50. Moreover, it is “the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.”
James Van Der Beek confirmed to the outlet that he has been taking measures to “resolve” his colorectal cancer diagnosis with his family’s support. He also mentioned that there is “reason for optimism” and that he is “feeling good.” However, the 47-year-old actor continues to work earnestly even in the face of adversity. One of his recent appearances was in an episode of The CW’s “Walker” and will next star in Tubi’s original movie “Sidelined: The QB and Me,” which premieres on November 29.
In a recent Instagram post, James Van Der Beek made his own announcement, admitting that he is “getting treatment.” The father of six wrote that he has been “dialing in my overall health with greater focus than ever before,” further declaring that he is now “feeling strong.” Additionally, he assured his supporters, “I’ll tell you more when I’m ready.”
