A lawyer for Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has responded to Megan Thee Stallion admitting in her new Amazon Prime documentary that she lied about their relationship.
In a CBS Mornings interview she had with Gayle King in 2022, Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Pete) says that she didnât have a sexual relationship with Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson). But in her two-hour documentary âMegan Thee Stallion: In Her Words,â the singer admits she lied about this (clip on X), saying that she actually hooked up with him âlike once, maybe twice on a drunk night.â This admission has led to new criticism against her, including comments made by the legal team for Lanez, who is serving a 10-year sentence on three felony charges after shooting her in the foot.
How will Megan Thee Stallionâs lie impact Tory Lanez?
Megan Thee Stallionâs lie about her relationship with Tory Lanez could impact his appeal, which reportedly âincludes previous false statements made by Megan.â
This is according to Caesar McDowell, CEO of the nonprofit law firm Unite the People and the chief deputy for Lorezâs legal team. In a statement to TMZ. he says that âthe fact that Megan lied about her sexual relationship with Tory obviously makes her an unreliable witness.â Additionally, he believes that âif someone lies in front of millions of people, how can you trust what they say any other time?â
An appeal submitted by Lanezâs legal team was acknowledged by Californiaâs 2nd District Court of Appeal on October 25, stating that the court would consider it along with his other appeals. For clarity, this comes despite rumors this past weekend claiming that the courts agreed that he was âinnocent,â per Billboard.
Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 during a drunken argument after a pool party at Kylie Jennerâs house. In December 2022, he was convicted in a jury trial for gross negligence in discharging a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic handgun, and possession for a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle. As reported by Hot New Hip Hop, Lanez has attempted to vacate his sentence with new evidence since his conviction.
