Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced his presidential endorsement in the week before Election Day. Despite being a Republican, Schwarzenegger has been vocally anti-Trump, leading many to question whether he would end up splitting with the party, which will only be exacerbated by his announcement.
Arnold Schwarzenegger endorses Kamala Harris for president
On X, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he endorses Kamala Harris for President of the United States. He cites Trump’s unwillingness to accept the results of the 2020 election results, divisive nature, and lack of bipartisan cooperation as his reasons for voting for Harris.
However, Schwarzenegger stops short of condemning the Republican Party or heaping praise on the Democratic Party. He claims to dislike both of them but claims he believes the only way to close the door on the current division in America is to vote for Harris, stating:
“We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that. He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger.”
Schwarzenegger refused to endorse Donald Trump in the 2016 or 2020 elections, but this marks the first time he’s backed an opposition candidate. However, he hasn’t kept his feelings about the former president a secret. He has been quoted as saying Trump is “a failed leader. He will go down in history as the worst president ever.”
This bold move by Schwarzenegger could sway moderate voters and signal a significant shift within the Republican landscape. As the election approaches, all eyes will be on how both parties respond to his endorsement. Whether this leads to further fractures or a rallying point for unity remains to be seen.
