Reba McEntire recently got candid about the incident when she was “tripping” on a gummy while caring for her mother. The country singer recently appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” During the segment, the 69-year-old recalled the incident with her mom, who passed away in 2020 from bladder cancer.
During the “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” segment, McEntire recalled she returned to Stringtown, Oklahoma, to look after her sick mom, Jacqueline Smith. The singer shared that her sister, Alice, told her, “If mama starts hurting tonight when y’all go to sleep, give her one of these gummies.” McEntire also confirmed with her sister she was supposed to give the “whole thing.” The singer shared she wasn’t “really comfortable with that.”
Reba McEntire tells Jimmy Fallon what happened when she took her mom’s gummy
Reba McEntire continued to recall the “tripping” gummy experience. She shared, “When we started going to bed, I said, ‘Mama, let’s get ahead of this pain. I’m going to give you half of this.'” After Smith took it and fell asleep, McEntire wanted to “see what she’s experiencing,” so she “took the other one” and went to sleep.
Later on, McEntire shared that she “felt the bed move.” Meanwhile, the star looked over at her mother, who was “getting up to use the bathroom on her little porta-potty because she couldn’t walk very well.” McEntire said, “Mama, hang on, I’ll be right there.” However, Smith said she was “good,” so the singer “threw back the covers,” and that was as far as she got.
McEntire recalled thinking, “Oh, my gosh, I got to help her. I’m going to look like a wimp if I don’t.” She continued to demonstrate how she slowly got to her mom’s side. After that, Smith asked her daughter to get some more ice water. The singer admitted that she sat there thinking, “That’s a long way away. I got the hall and then the kitchen.”
After imagining how the scenario could go wrong, McEntire decided not to get the ice and gave the water to her mom as it was. When Smith asked where the ice was, the singer replied, “We’re out.” After she got her mom back in the bed, McEntire shared, “I laid down and I swear there was weeds and flowers growing out of my head.” The following day, she learned the gummy had 50 milligrams. “I took 25 milligrams,” said McEntire. After the singer finished recalling the story, Fallon praised the singer’s efforts, saying, “You were tripping, yeah. And still took care of mom.”
