Stephen Colbert Trolls Bret Baier Over Viral Kamala Harris Interview

Kamala Harris‘ recent Fox News interview with Bret Baier quickly went viral due to his interviewing technique, and Stephen Colbert had lots to say on the matter. As the 2024 presidential elections draw closer, Harris has been participating in several discussions as a part of her campaign. After her appearance on the Fox News interview, many questioned the journalist’s style of questioning. Some commenters even called it an “ambush” as Baier kept interrupting the presidential candidate.

On a recent episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the show host took a dig at Bret Baier for his now-viral Fox News interview with Kamala Harris. Colbert went on to call the network the “belly of the beast.” He also commended the Democratic presidential candidate on making it out of the interview and holding her own. However, before he began, he made it clear to his viewers that he was in full support of journalists asking the “toughest questions of presidential candidates.”

He began by highlighting that Baier never gave Harris a chance to answer his questions. Colbert jokingly questioned, “Does he think he is interviewing himself?” He likened the journalist’s demeanor to that of a cat’s, doing a clawing action as he went “meow.” The show host also pointed out Baier misquoting Donald Trump, picking and choosing sections that justified his answer. He joked that it was similar to someone only watching the opening scene of “Jurassic Park” and thinking it would be a lovely place to reside in because of the lush greenery.

Stephen Colbert then stated, “A journalist can’t selectively edit what someone says just to please their audience.” However, he couldn’t resist adding that he could because he was a “late-night host” and “not a journalist.”

He also found it funny that Baier asked Harris why so many people were supporting Trump if he was as “bad” as she made him out to be. Colbert jokingly exclaimed that a Fox News journalist asking this question was the same as Taco Bell asking people why so many people suffer from diarrhea. The host then answered, “It’s you guys. You are the diarrhea factory.”

Stephen Colbert ended the segment by calling out Bret Baier for trying to make Kamala Harris into President Joe Biden during the interview. However, the presidential candidate clarified that she represents “a new generation of leadership.” Colbert agreed with her point, noting that she was only 59 years old, making her much younger than Joe Biden, who is 81, and Donald Trump, who is 78.
