‘The Office’ Actor Jenna Fischer Reveals Cancer Diagnosis & How She Fought It

Jenna Fischer has recently shared her journey from cancer diagnosis to going cancer-free in an Instagram post. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fischer has taken the opportunity to detail the moment she learned she had an “aggressive” form of breast cancer in December 2023 after a routine mammogram. She claimed when the results were inconclusive, her doctor ordered a breast ultrasound and biopsy, which then detected the tumor.

“The Office” actor describes her journey since the life-altering diagnosis that required exhaustive chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. She urges others to get their annual mammograms while revealing in the caption that she is now cancer-free.

Jenna Fischer is now cancer-free: ‘It takes a village to fight cancer’

Jenna Fischer, now cancer-free, believes that “it takes a village to fight cancer,” and she got lucky with “an amazing village” after her breast cancer diagnosis. Since October is considered Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she weighs on her decision to make this announcement partly to ditch the wigs and partly in hopes of being “a source of support” to others. Fischer reveals a biopsy found she had Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer on December 1, 2023, and describes her journey since then.

In her latest Instagram post, Jenna Fischer discusses the effect of immediate treatment and surgery since her breast cancer diagnosis. She underwent a lumpectomy in January and claimed she required chemotherapy and radiation despite the early cancer diagnosis. In the following months, she began chemotherapy and radiation to ensure the cancer didn’t return and is now receiving treatments with “infusions of Herceptin and a daily dose of Tamoxifen.”

Jenna Fischer happily announces “feeling great” now, especially after the long wait to finally talk about her breast cancer diagnosis. The 50-year-old survivor reveals losing her hair during chemo and that she now relies on wigs. However, now that it’s public knowledge, she is “ready to ditch the wigs” and implores others to get their mammograms. “Consider this your kick in the butt,” the actor adds.

Additionally, Fischer expresses gratitude for her medical team and caregivers, some with cancer stories of their own. The actor mentions connecting with survivors “who coached me along the way,” highlighting the power of sharing. She calls them a part of her village alongside her family and friends. The mother of two also has a special message for her family, especially her husband Lee, who was “literally by my side” throughout.

Concluding the post, Jenna Fischer announces that she is now cancer-free nearly a year after her breast cancer diagnosis. However, she will continue the treatment and monitoring “to help me stay that way.” In the announcement, there is a special emphasis on Michael Scott’s “take care of your ticking time bags” reference. Fischer’s message to the ladies is to “Get ’em checked” and “Don’t skip your mammogram.”
