Melania Trump detailed her first meeting with her husband, former president Donald Trump, in her memoir, “Melania.” In an excerpt of the memoir obtained by Variety, she recalled what Trump said to her when they first met. He was reportedly with another woman when the two saw each other at a party in 1998. Melania claimed that she did not know much about his identity except his status as a “businessman or a celebrity.” She further revealed their initial interactions and what led the two to exchange contact details.
How Donald Trump got Melania’s number when they first met
Melania Trump remembered being with her friend when she saw Donald Trump and a blonde woman approach them. She recalled that after Trump introduced himself and shook hands with her, she had thought, “I recognized the name, and I knew he was a businessman or celebrity, but not much else.”
Melania further detailed their initial conversation, writing that the former president’s eyes were “filled with curiosity and interest” as he sat next to her and initiated a conversation. She reminisced, “He [Trump] asked me about my time in New York, my Slovenian home, and my world travels. It was a moment of connection, a brief encounter that left a lasting impression. It was nice to make a new acquaintance.” The former model also remembered dismissing the conversation as exchanged pleasantries since Trump was accompanied by a “beautiful date.”
The former first lady confessed that Trump managed to charm her from their first conversation, and she was drawn to his “magnetic energy”. She also wrote that their interaction “was a refreshing departure from the usual superficial small talk.” She continued that even though they were surrounded by “so much bustling activity,” Trump’s attention on her made her “feel like the center of his world.”
However, Melania politely declined his request to share her contact details, which surprised him. But when she asked for his phone number, Trump said that he would give his number only if she promised to call him. She claimed her now-husband discreetly wrote a note on his business card before handing it over to her.
In her memoir, the former first lady also recalled the couple’s mutual love for Elvis Presley and Elton John. Melania, who shares son Barron Trump with the former president, also talked about her relationship with her stepchildren — Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump.
