Vice President Kamala Harris has previously stated that she owns a firearm, which came as a surprise given her stance on guns. She stated that the weapon is a handgun, but left us curious about what brand and type it is. Well, we finally know. In her recent 60 Minutes interview, she revealed further details about her gun.
Kamala Harris reveals what brand of handgun she owns
According to USA Today, In an interview on 60 Minutes, Kamala Harris told interviewer Bill Whitaker that she owned a Glock semi-automatic handgun. She stated that she’s practiced with the firearm at a shooting range and has owned it for some time.
Harris hasn’t kept the fact that she owns a firearm a secret. She acknowledged that she was a gun owner during her time as a U.S. Senator and again during her presidential candidacy in 2020. She stated that she purchased the handgun for “the reason a lot of people do, for personal safety.”
On September 19, 2024, at a campaign event with Oprah Winfrey, Harris joked, “If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot.” Some considered this to be a faux pas since Harris has pushed for extensive gun control laws to be passed.
Some of the measures she supports are:
- Nationwide mandatory buyback for “assault-style weapons.”
- Universal background checks on all gun sales, private or commercial.
- Expanded red flag laws.
- Ban “high-capacity” magazines.
She’s also previously stated that if elected president, she’ll give Congress 100 days to pass a comprehensive gun control bill or take executive action to accomplish the above.
Notably, Harris didn’t mention what model of Glock she owned in the 60 Minutes interview. The 9mm Glock 19 is the manufacturer’s most popular model, so statistically, she’s most likely to own it or its larger brother, the Glock 17.
