A24’s upcoming erotic movie “Babygirl” recently dropped its trailer, showing Nicole Kidman in a steamy role. The film debuted at the 81st Venice Film Festival, winning Kidman the Best Actress prize for her performance playing a distinguished business executive, Romy, who succumbs to her desires and starts an affair with a younger intern. “Where the Crawdads Sing” actor Harris Dickinson plays the role of Samuel, the young intern, to bring out the submissive side of Kidman’s character.

Nicole Kidman explores her sexual desires for a much younger intern in the erotic drama “Babygirl.” In the initial scenes of the trailer, Kidman’s character, Romy, makes her first encounter with Karris Dickinson’s Samuel in what would later become a steamy affair and a sexual awakening for her. The two start on a light note, with Romy as a business executive and Samuel as her intern. However, their professional bond soon develops into something off-beat.
The “Babygirl” trailer explores the relationship Romy shares with her intern despite having a husband and a family at home. It offers brief glimpses into the character’s submissive sexual desires, which are dissimilar to the outer layer she upholds every day. Meanwhile, Samuel sets the rules as the dominant one, which is contrary to their in-office roles. However, their affair turns into something sinister once the threats and blackmailings begin and the secrets start to surface.
According to Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman says she “felt very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being” portraying the character of Romy in “Babygirl.” Unlike other erotic movies, director Halina Reijn intended to depict “a very different animal” that Romy is since “a lot of women are not at ease with the beast in themselves.” As such, the film is Reijn’s attempt to demonstrate the conflicting elements that constitute human personalities.
One of this year’s highly anticipated movies, A24’s upcoming erotic drama “Babygirl” hits theaters nationwide on December 25.
