What Lyle Menendez Said About His ‘Steady’ Marriage From Prison

Lyle Menendez and his brother Erik, who are both serving life sentences in prison for murdering their parents, are now happily married. The Menendez brothers married their respective wives, Rebecca Sneed and Tammi Saccoman, while in prison. The case and their present lives have resurfaced in light of the premiere of Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” which also looks into the abuse allegations that the brothers brought up against their father.

In 1996, Lyle reportedly tied the knot with his first wife, Anna Eriksson, and they remained married until 2001. The now-56-year-old has been with his second wife and attorney, Rebecca, since 2003. Moreover, in 2017, he told PEOPLE in a rare prison interview that he and his wife have a very “steady” and “involved marriage.” He further claimed that it has sustained him and “brings a lot of peace and joy.” Erik Menendez married his wife, Tammi, in 1999 and the two have been together ever since.

How Lyle Menendez handled marriage with wife Rebecca from prison

Lyle Menendez has handled his marriage from inside the walls of a maximum security prison for more than two decades now. He previously claimed to spend most of his time on Saturdays and Sundays with his wife, Rebecca Sneed, in the visiting room of California’s Mule Creek State Prison. Lyle said their “interaction tends to be very free of distractions.” Moreover, he believes they have “more intimate conversations than most married spouses do, who are distracted by life’s events.”

The Menendez brothers have since been moved to the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego. Further discussing his married life, Lyle said that he and Rebecca “try and talk on the phone every day.” He claimed that “sometimes” they even talk “several times a day” and “have a very steady, involved marriage.” Lyle believes his wife and their healthy marriage “is a counter to the unpredictable, very stressful environment here.”

The Menendez brothers have been serving their respective life sentences since 1996 following their first-degree murder convictions. They admitted to fatally shooting their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989 in their upstate Beverly Hills mansion. Their case remains a work in progress with new allegations of abuse potentially determining the remaining years of the brothers’ lives.

Ryan Murphy’s latest “Monsters” installment delves into the latest developments in the case, including abuse allegations against Lyle and Erik’s father.
