Pope Francis Weighs in on Donald Trump and Kamala Harris

Pope Francis has weighed in on his opinion of the 2024 U.S. presidential election candidates. Around 20% of the U.S. population identifies as Catholic, so despite not being an American citizen, the Pope could potentially influence voters. If the Pope came out as for or against Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, that could push enough undecideds to their side to win the election. However, it looks like he doesn’t like either one of them.

Pope Francis reveals how he feels about Trump and Harris

According to CNN, Pope Francis recently held a press conference during his journey home to Rome from a multi-country tour of Asia and Oceania. During the meeting, he weighed in on his feelings about the two candidates running in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

While he didn’t address Trump and Harris by name, it was obvious who he was talking about:

“One must choose the lesser of two evils. Who is the lesser of two evils? That lady or that gentleman? I don’t know.”

Of Trump, he said, “To send migrants away, to leave them wherever you want, to leave them … it’s something terrible, there is evil there.”

He had some harsh words for Harris as well: “To send away a child from the womb of the mother is an assassination because there is life. We must speak about these things clearly.”

The Pope sees the two issues, migration and abortion, as connected: “Whether it is the one who is chasing away migrants, or the one who that kills children, both are against life.”

However, despite not agreeing with either candidate, Pope Francis encouraged Catholics to vote, saying, “Not voting is ugly. It is not good. You must vote.”

While many Catholics take what the Pope has to say to heart, many commentors on social media expressed that they think he needs to “stay in his lane.” They also criticized him for expressing his opinion on immigration in the U.S. when he lives in the Vatican City, which takes in zero migrants per year.
