Ben & Jerry’s Launches Limited-Edition Kamala Harris Ice Cream Flavor

Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has given the internet several opportunities to make memes, including her recent presidential debate with former president Donald Trump. However, this time, it’s one of her quotes from last year that has been put to good use. Harris went viral after she made a remark about falling out of a coconut tree, which is now an inspiration for an ice cream flavor. Ben & Jerry’s co-founders teamed up with political advocacy group MoveOn to create a new dessert inspired by the quote.

Ben & Jerry’s resurrects viral Kamala Harris quote via ice cream flavor

On September 12, Ben & Jerry’s co-founders, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, joined forces with MoveOn to create a Kamala Harris-inspired dessert. The inspiration comes from Kamala Harris’ viral quote, “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” This remark took the internet by storm as users began to make memes out of the quote.

The viral quote comes from the Vice President’s May 2023 speech at The White House. Harris stressed the importance of not just focusing on the younger generation but also on their parents, grandparents, and other adults. She recalled her mother’s words of wisdom and said, “My mother used to — she would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?'”

MoveOn’s campaign website revealed that Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee is a coconut-flavored ice cream with caramel ripples. It will also have red, white, and blue confetti star sprinkles. Moreover, the product will travel around the country in a “Scoop the Vote” ice cream truck, making 20 stops in background states to hand out free ice cream. People can even sign up to win the autographed limited-edition flavor. Furthermore, volunteers will be speaking to the signed-up voters about the election and policies.

MoveOn’s executive director Rahna Epting spoke with USA Today about the initiative. She said, “There’s a ton of folks that are already tuned into this election, and then there’s a vast, vast set of folks that aren’t.” This is to ensure that even non-political activities involving ice cream can help to gain the interests of American voters.
