Did Megan Thee Stallion Carry a Real Snake for Britney Spears’ VMAs Tribute?

Megan Thee Stallion channeled her inner Britney Spears at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards as she paid homage to the pop icon. The “HISS” rapper recreated Spears’ iconic 2001 VMAs performance when she brought a snake on the stage. Now, there’s one question on everyone’s minds — is the snake Megan Thee Stallion carrying at the VMAs real?

Megan Thee Stallion kicked off the 2024 VMAs as the host for the star-studded night. Shortly after, the “Hot Girl Summer” hitmaker stepped out in a stunning green bikini top and metallic shorts with a blue fabric around her legs. The most striking piece in her ensemble was the real snake wrapped around her, noted The Hollywood Reporter. In celebration of 40 years of the award show, this year’s event looked back on some of the biggest moments in VMAs history. One of those was Britney Spears’ performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U” at the 2001 show.

Megan did a spectacular job recreating Britney’s look. However, the rapper couldn’t hold the real python for long. At one point, a nervous Megan said, “Stop the music!” She continued, “I’m just playing. Come get this snake. I don’t know this snake. This snake don’t know me.” Meanwhile, a handler took the snake off of her as she exclaimed, “Oh my god!” Megan then said that she tried to hold the real snake down for Britney.

Last year, Britney Spears shared that one of her “favorite performances was with an albino python.” She opened up about the iconic VMAs performance and wrote, “I still remember how scared I felt when I was handed this snake and took the stage.” The singer further added that she talked about the snake performance and her other favorites in her book “The Woman in Me.”

Besides Megan Thee Stallion’s snake look at the VMAs, the “Mamushi” hitmaker flaunted several other costume changes and gave spectacular performances of her hit songs.
