A new conspiracy theory is making the rounds on social media that Kamala Harris used a pair of earphones disguised as earrings to “cheat” at last night’s debate. If this were true, it would be against the debate rules and make for potent ammo for the Trump campaign. However, the earbuds people are claiming she used may not actually exist.
Pearl earphones Kamala Harris is accused of using to cheat debate never hit the market
Users on X noted the similarities between the earrings Kamala Harris wore to the debate and the Nova H1 Audio Earrings. The Nova H1s were touted as a stylish and discreet way for wearers to enjoy recorded audio and also double as headsets. They were said to use patented Directional Sound Technology to project sound from the earlobe to the ear canal, keeping music and calls private and secure.
The Nova H1s were the subject of a Kickstarter in early 2021 with a €42,000 goal. Backers ended up pledging €103,703, and the earphones had an estimated ship date of August 2021.
We know a prototype of the Nova H1 audio earrings exists, as Tom’s Guide reported trying them at CES. However, we can’t find any evidence that the company behind the earphones, Icebach Sound Solutions, ever offered them for sale or even sent any to its Kickstarter backers.
Even if the Nova H1s were available, they don’t match the earrings Harris wore to the debate. As the blog What Kamala Wore pointed out, they were likely Tiffany South Sea Pearl Earrings.
Above all else, it doesn’t make sense that the vice president of the United States of America would use a prototype of some obscure earphones if she wanted to cheat at the debate. Presumably, as a senior government official, she could access any number of clandestine devices, which would be much easier to conceal.
