The friendship between Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes is facing backlash after their recent meet-up at the US Open Men’s Final. Pictures captured the duo hugging affectionately, and some Swifties have made their displeasure known on X (formerly Twitter) due to the fact that Mahomes made her support for Donald Trump clear earlier this year.
Many fans have also defended Swift by stating that one can be friends with people with different political views. One supporter posted, “Why do people want to drop friends and family because of politics? People can get along and not have that in common.”
Mahomes reportedly liked the former president’s post titled “The 2024 GOP Platform,” which sparked outrage. The post highlighted the Trump administration’s priorities for a second term. After facing backlash, she reportedly unliked the post but ended up liking some comments on “Trump-Vance 2024” promotional posts.
Mahomes even publicly responded to the hate. She said, “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood.” Following the series of happenings, Donald Trump expressed his gratitude to Mahomes for “defending” him online.
Trump posted on his Truth Social account, thanking “beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me.” He also mentioned how “MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country.”
Trump further added that Brittany and Patrick Mahomes are “a great couple,” telling them, “See you both at the Super Bowl!”
Taylor Swift has now officially endorsed Kamala Harris amid the Brittany Mahomes drama. The singer has always been vocal about her political views and previously backed Joe Biden during the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. At the time, she slammed Donald Trump for “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency” and called him out for having the “nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence.” The 34-year-old singer had also stated, “We will vote you out in November.”
Swift endorsed Harris for president just after the end of the presidential debate between Harris and Trump.
