Medical emergency temporarily halts ‘Eden’ movie premiere at TIFF

At the world premiere of Sydney Sweeney’s “Eden” at the 2024 TIFF, an unexpected medical emergency temporarily halted the screening. The incident took place at around 7 p.m. during a scene involving childbirth. Around this time, loud murmurs caught the cast’s and audience’s attention, and a few moments later, the staff turned on the lights. Variety reported the cast and director Ron Howard remained seated as they saw several individuals trying to handle the situation. After a few minutes, the person who suffered the medical issue was taken out of the Roy Thomson Hall on a stretcher.

Meanwhile, the screening suffered a 10-minute delay and resumed its screening afterward. Variety further reported that Toronto Film Festival’s CEO Cameron Bailey later updated the audience on the situation. During a post-screening Q&A, Bailey confirmed that the audience member “will be OK,” which led to wide applause amongst the audience.

“Eden” is a dark comedy about murder and survival. The story focuses on a group of people who leave their societal life behind to move to the Galápagos Islands on an existential journey. The survival thriller stars Sydney Sweeney, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Jude Law, and Daniel Brühl. It premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 7.
