Katie Gaudreau, Sister of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, Cancels Wedding After Brothers’ Passing

The wedding of Katie Gaudreau, the sister of NHL star Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, has been canceled after the sudden passing of her brothers. Both Johnny, 31, and Matthew Gaudreau, 29, were scheduled to be groomsmen for Katie’s wedding on Friday, August 30, before they were struck by a suspected drunk driver the night before the ceremony. Katie and her fiancé, Devin Joyce, have decided to drop their nuptials in the wake of the tragedy, as confirmed by TMZ.

Katie Gaudreau receives heartfelt condolences on Instagram and X

Katie Gaudreau has received condolences by users on her official accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

At the time of writing, Katie and the Gaudreau family have not made an official statement on the tragic passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. Fans have left heartfelt replies in support of Katie on her most recent posts on X and Instagram.

One user on X wrote, “Heart goes out to you and your entire family today. We’re all with you.” Another user on Instagram commented, “Absolutely unimaginable. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.”

In a statement by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Johnny Gaudreau’s NHL team, they are “shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy” and send their “heartfelt sympathies to Johnny’s wife, Meredith; his children, Noa and Johnny; his parents; and their family and friends.” They have asked for “prayers for the Gaudreau family and that their privacy be respected as they grieve.”

As reported by The Columbus Dispatch, police say that Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed while biking Thursday night in Oldmans Township, New Jersey near their hometown of Salem County, New Jersey. The brothers suffered fatal injuries after a suspected drunk driver, Sean Higgins, crashed into them shortly after 8 p.m. Higgins is charged with two counts of death by auto.
