Vance asserted he does not “need a teleprompter, I’ve actually got thoughts in my head, unlike Kamala Harris.” Minutes after the teleprompter quip, JD Vance’s joke backfired due to a speech error. JD Vance makes speech error after teleprompter quip
JD Vance mentioned Kamala Harris using a teleprompter only to make a speech error at a campaign event in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, August 28. In his speech, Vance slammed Harris and, moments later, made a mistake when mentioning Afghanistan’s Abbey Gate as he addressed the crowd. Vance said, “The families of these poor people who had their loved ones die three years ago at Abbey Road, they had to — I mean, Abbey Gate.”
As per the U.S. Department of Defense, Abbey Gate is located outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. In 2021, thirteen American troops and at least 170 Afghan civilians died in a horrific terrorist attack. Monday marked three years since the tragedy occurred. Abbey Road, on the other hand, is in London, England, and was made famous by the major recording studio located there and the famous Beatles album named after it.
JD Vance’s slip came as he answered a reporter’s question regarding the recent Arlington National Cemetery altercation. The incident occurred after two Donald Trump campaign staffers got into a confrontation with a cemetery official. It was reported that the official prevented a member of the Trump campaign from filming in a restricted section.
Before JD Vance’s Abbey Gate blunder, he mentioned, “There is verifiable evidence that the campaign was allowed to have a photographer there.” Vance added that “there’s verifiable they were invited to have a photographer there.”
During the same speech, JD Vance called Kamala Harris “disgraceful.” He said, “Kamala Harris is so asleep at the wheel that she won’t even do an investigation into what happened.” Vance further claimed that “she wants to yell at Donald Trump because he showed up, she can go to Hell.”
Donald Trump’s campaign spokesperson denied there was an altercation. However, the Arlington National Cemetery confirmed that “there was an incident, and a report was filed.”
