TikToker Alix Earle has issued an apology on her Instagram for a racist slur she made on the question-and-answer website Askfm in 2014. Screenshots of Earle’s offensive comments have resurfaced on TikTok and other subreddits, prompting the internet personality to apologize for her past actions. These screenshots were first posted last year on a Reddit page called Alix Earle Snark, as reported by Variety. Other claims also alleged that Earle trademarked her older posts to prevent people from sharing them.
Alix Earle issues apology for using racial slur in resurfaced posts
Alix Earle recently posted an apology on her official Instagram story after screenshots of a racist slur she used on Askfm resurfaced. In her apology, Earle stated, “A couple of weeks ago, screenshots surfaced from my old ask.fm account showing me using a slur in the summer of 2014.” She took “accountability” for making the comments when she was “13 years old.” The social media personality claimed she “did not understand the deeply offensive meaning behind that word.” Nonetheless, she added that it is “no excuse for using that word in any context or at any age” and that it is “absolutely not the way I speak or what I stand for.”
Alix Earle’s apology referred to the racist slur from Askfm and other claims stemming from the controversy, which expanded after screenshots of the comments resurfaced this month. Earle noted she is “deeply sorry that my words have hurt many and have led people to believe that I have any prejudice in my heart. I promise you that could not be further from the truth.”
The TikToker maintained, “My platform has always focused on positivity, entertainment, and uplifting others, and will continue to do so,” once again apologizing “to those I have offended.” In addition, she addressed her lateness in addressing the issue and said she was “allowing too many people to talk me out of saying something for too long.”
The 23-year-old believes her ineffectiveness in tackling the situation allowed rumors to spark, claiming they “simply aren’t true.” Alix Earle discussed one particular rumor that alleged she trademarked her older posts to prevent people from sharing her racist slur comments from Askfm. She called this claim “absolutely ridiculous and untrue.” Earle explained she wanted to “address the facts and most importantly apologize” despite all the talk online.
