Fall brings a lot to be excited about. It marks the arrival of sweater weather, crunchy leaves underfoot, and crisp evening air. Even if you don’t live somewhere with seasons, you can still enjoy pumpkin-spiced everything and start watching spooky movies in anticipation of Halloween.
Honestly, what’s better on a chilly night than covering yourself in blankets and settling in to watch a few scary movies? And if you’re going for scares, in our opinion, there’s nothing better than a classic serial killer movie. From Ghost Face to Hannibal Lecter, we can’t get enough of these creepy villains. Keep scrolling to see some of our favorite serial killer movies to stream this fall, ranked.
Ranked Serial Killer Movies
-
8. 'Scream'
The best thing about Scream is that it was created to almost highlight all of the predictable tropes that happen in all serial killer movies. But, not only does it completely serve this purpose, but it’s also a scary, thrilling, wild movie.
-
7. 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'
If you’re making a list of the best, you’d better not forget The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original 1970s film about a group of travelers who happen upon the now infamous Leatherface and his family is a must-watch.
-
6. 'Halloween'
The movie that started a franchise is a must-watch fall movie for fans of slow-walking, William Shatner-masked serial killers. It’s just as scary today as it was when it was made in 1978.
-
5. 'Zodiac'
One of the scariest things about this movie is the fact that not only is it a true story, but even today the Zodiac Killer has never been found out. Don’t let that spoiler stop you from enjoying this great movie.
-
4. 'American Psycho'
This story of an unhinged 1980s yuppy played by the amazing Christian Bale is absolutely bonkers and deserves a viewing this fall. At the very least watch it for the infamous scene with Jared Leto.
-
3. 'Se7en'
You know there are a ton of great serial killer movies when an all-time great film like Se7en isn’t at the top of the list. This story of two detectives investigating a killer who’s depicting the seven deadly sins is as disturbing as it is exciting.
-
2. 'Psycho'
Norman Bates is one of the most well-known killers of all time. If you’ve never seen Alfred Hitchcock’s classic movie, now is the time. And not the Vince Vaughn version.
-
1. 'Silence of the Lambs'
If there’s a perfect serial killer movie, this is it. The story centers around Clarice Starling, an FBI agent who interviews an incarcerated cannibal named Hannibal Lecter to gain insight into a notorious serial killer case.
