When Squid Game first premiered on Netflix last fall, it quickly became an international phenomenon. For those who have somehow still not seen it, the premise is simple. The Korean show, named after a traditional children’s game, follows a gambling addict named Seong Gi-hun who finds his way into an unusual contest.
But Squid Game isn’t like a game show where contestants answer questions and play games to win money. This is a winner-takes-all game where the champion takes home roughly $38 million in US dollars. But there’s a very deadly catch. Hundreds of equally desperate contestants play a handful of “children’s games.” Sounds simple, right?
Well, if they win they move on. If they lose, they are murdered. This includes a very brutal game of Red Light/Green Light where snipers take out any players who move when they’re supposed to freeze. As the competition continues, more players die and the challenges get more and more deadly. We won’t ruin it for you, but the excitement builds to a crescendo.
A few weeks ago, it was announced that a second season is on the way. The first season was so exciting and engrossing, that it makes us wonder what’s in store for Seong Gi-hun in season two. Keep scrolling to see our outrageous predictions.
Eight Squid Game Predictions

Seong Gi-hun loses all of his money.
When we last saw Seong Gi-hun, he had barely touched any of his winnings. We have a feeling that due to his gambling addiction or some other reason, he’s going to lose it all again and have to make some tough, potentially deadly decisions.

Somehow, he gets drawn into another ‘Squid Game.’
While it would seem silly for Seong Gi-hun to intentionally take part in another brutal competition, he might not have a choice due to being forced in for one reason or another.

Seong Gi-hun’s daughter gets kidnapped.
Perhaps his daughter gets kidnapped by The Front Man or whoever is really in charge of the competition. Either she (and other children) are forced to compete or Seong Gi-hun has to join in again to save her.

The creepy, rich, English-speaking VIPs come back.
Arguably the worst, most vile, most annoying characters in Season 1, we expect the bloated, rich, masked, English-speaking VIPs to make a return. Hopefully this time they all get what’s coming to them.

The detective is alive.
After Season 1, we were left wondering if the detective actually died by his brother’s (The Front Man) hand. But in interviews, the actor has made it clear that he wasn’t actually positive that his character actually died. Let’s hope he’s around for round two.

'Squid Game' goes international.
While this game is historically Korean, we assume that the popularity of the TV shows (specifically on Netflix) will lead to the show having a much more international feel. Might the games be more international? The players? Who knows.

We learn more about The Front Man.
We learned that (gasp) The Front Man is the detective’s brother. He won the competition back in 2015 (it’s been going on since the 1990s) and then disappeared. Hopefully Season 2 brings a little background on how he got to where he is now.

It’s all a government-controlled experiment.
Our boldest prediction is that it’s not just a simple, bloody, barbaric game show after all. Sure, the VIPs and others seem to get off on all the mayhem, but there has to be more to this than that. We think it’s some sort of government experiment. It makes sense to us.
