Seth Green Bored Ape Theft Derails Sitcom About NFTs, Thank God For Crime

It doesn’t just happen to Boomers. Seth Green fell for a phishing scam that led to the theft of his coveted Bored Ape, Fred Simian. We know getting a bunch of arguably worthless IP pilfered from the safety of one’s cloud sounds like a victimless crime, but this heist has left Green one star short of a sitcom.

Like Cheers for the 21st Century, Green’s new show was designed to dive into the wacky lifestyle woes of a ragtag crew of bartenders and their regulars, a mix of humans and NFTs. Fred was all set to lead the cast of White Horse Tavern when he vanished, only to be sold on the dark web along with the copyright for his likeness. Now Green is pleading with the Bored Ape’s new owner, DarkWing84, to return his purloined primate.

“I bought that ape in July 2021, and have spent the last several months developing and exploiting the IP to make it into the star of this show,” Green said. “Then days before he’s set to make his world debut, he’s literally kidnapped.”

Alas, DarkWing84 purchased the ape fair and square (for $200,000) despite the goods being hotter than a griddle at Sunday brunch. Therefore, experts agree that DarkWing84 can put the kibosh on Green’s show if they so desire because, well, apparently digital rights are even shadier than analog rights. Maybe Green should make a show about that?

As for the unknown thief, all we can do is speculate as to their motive. Perhaps they saw the trailer for the new show, which stars the voice of Green as Fred the Bored Ape bartender who avoids relationships to stay bored.

As you can see, it’s not exactly Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Can’t Green just draw a new ape on the back of a cocktail napkin and call it a day? We’ve got some crayons he can borrow.
