In the latest edition of Honest Reviews, we’re pulling together the funniest audience movie reviews on the internet. From funny to ironic, truthful to the downright silly, we’re diving into the deep, dark rabbit hole of online movie fandom. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
This was one of the most anticipated Marvel films of the year. In case you’ve somehow been living under a rock, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the biggest thing to happen to cinema since sliced bread. To date, the MCU has collectively grossed over $26 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the most successful franchise of all time. As the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, Multiverse of Madness is the 28th film in the MCU. The film follows the titular character as he traverses the Multiverse.
More importantly, Multiverse of Madness features the glorious return of Sam Raimi. That’s right, the sequel features Raimi’s return to the director’s chair after nearly a decade. Ironically enough, Multiverse of Madness was released gnarly 20 years after The Godfather of superhero movies, Spider-Man (2002). Although Multiverse of Madness has grossed close to $900 million to date, the movie split both audiences and critics. It’s the type of film that people seem to either love or hate, with not much middle ground in between.
Naturally, the users of the platform Letterboxd.com were on the case, offering differing opinions on the film. If anything, there’s one thing that the discussion surrounding the film has proven – more superhero movies need unique visual stylists at the helm. Here are some of the most honest reviews of the Multiverse of Madness.
