Meanwhile in Hot Mics: Lakers Announcer Caught Hilariously Complaining About Game (And We Totally Agree With Him)

You’d think that if you had the privilege of being behind a microphone for the purposes of communicating to a large audience, you’d be excessively careful about the words that came out of your mouth and extra attentive to when your mic was and was not turned on.

But as we’ve seen countless times, somehow broadcasters don’t know how to keep their mouths shut – or at least check to see if they’re live before putting their foot in their mouths.

The latest example of this comes courtesy of 75-year-old Lakers announcer Stu Lantz. He (understandably) has some frustrations with the team. After testing his audio equipment during the pregame warmups on Tuesday, he greeted someone, and then, not realizing he was on the air, let his opinion on the Lakers rip.

“SOS, DD,” Lantz moaned. “Get this over with. Put us out of our misery.”

(For those unfamiliar with the acronym, “SOS, DD” stands for “Same Old Shit, Different Day.”)

Hear the hilarious flub for yourself:

While this kind of slip must be embarrassing, Lantz wasn’t wrong in his assessment of the team. He’s been a commentator for the Lakers since 1987, and he knows a shitty season when he sees one. It doesn’t help that the team’s star player, LeBron James, has been on the bench due to an ongoing ankle injury.

Indeed, at the game in question, the Suns went on to beat the Lakers 121-110, effectively eliminating any chance for the Los Angeles team to make it to the playoffs.

We don’t begrudge Lantz for his pessimistic take on the Lakers, but in the interest of his career, he might want to be a little more careful the next time he straps his headset on.
