A combustible new trailer has been revealed for Ambulance, the latest film from director-producer Michael Bay. Like many of the director’s vehicles in the past, the newest trailer for the film focuses on explosions, car chases, and editing that is bound to give you a seizure. However, this trailer for Ambulance also forces us to ask the question — Is this the return of good Michael Bay? You know, before he sucked balls?
For those who are unaware, Ambulance follows a decorated war veteran who turns to a career criminal (who also happens to be his adoptive brother) to pay for his wife’s medical expenses. As they attempt one of the biggest bank heists in the history of Los Angeles, they are forced to hijack an ambulance that happens to be occupied by a wounded cop. Typical Michal Bay hijinks ensue.
As you can see, this new trailer for Ambulance is much better than the one that came before it. Aside from better establishing the tone, it also gives us a better look into the dynamic between Yaya Abdul Mateen II, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eliza Gonzalez. There’s something to be said for when Michael Bay strips down his storytelling style to one primary location (the titular Ambulance) and three main characters, while also retaining the Bay aesthetic.
Ironically enough, Ambulance is based on the 2005 Danish film Ambulancen, which means that all it takes for Bay to return to relevance is to remake a foreign film. After the trainwreck that was 6 Underground, it’s hard to go anywhere up from here. In all seriousness, the movie looks to be a return to the era of good Michael Bay’s filmography. Hopefully, this movie won’t continue Bay’s ball-sucking trope. Ambulance arrives in theaters on April 8, 2022.
