Brutally Honest Movie Reviews: ‘The Power of the Dog’ to Put Us to Sleep

In the latest edition of Worst Reviews Ever, we’re pulling together the best audience movie reviews on the internet. From the funny to the ironic, the truthful to the downright silly, we’re diving into the deep, dark rabbit hole of online movie fandom.

The Power of the Dog is one of 2021’s best-reviewed movies, which means that only about half the people who watch it will actually like it. As a frontrunner for the Best Picture award at this year’s Oscars, even more people will actually find it boring. However, the film’s 12 Academy Award nominations beg to differ. Although the movie is certainly triggering, especially for fake cowboys such as Sam Elliott, the truth is that the book on which it was based represents a fairly accurate portrayal of cowboy culture in the 1920s.

And while a movie like The Power of the Dog may feel aimless at times, the fact of the matter is that Writer/Director Jane Campion is in full control of her craft. Despite being one of the most obvious Best Picture frontrunners in years, that hasn’t stopped the users of the platform Letterboxd.com from giving their brutally honest reviews of the movie.
