Someone Is Trying to Ruin ‘The Great British Baking Show’ by Turning It Into a Musical

There are few shows we love more than ‘The Great British Baking Show’ (also known as ‘The Great British Bake Off’ in the UK). It’s like warm hug on a cold day. Someone on Twitter referred to it as the “weighted blanket of TV shows”. Even though there’s a ton of stress and anxiety, the pacing is slow, everyone is supporting each other, and even when Paul Hollywood really digs into a contestant for their “stodgy” or “underbaked” show-stopper, he’s a lot nicer and gives better feedback than an American celebrity judge.

In our opinion, it’s the perfect binge-able show. It doesn’t need to be changed and there’s nothing anyone can do to make it better. That’s why we were so annoyed when we heard that someone was turning our beloved show into a musical.

Luckily, we don’t have to see any cringe-worthy musical numbers featuring Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood anytime soon. The Great British Bake Off: The Musical is going to debut this summer at the everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, England.

The musical, based on the long-running television series, will feature a cast of eight “amateur bakers”, two presenters, and two judges. We can only assume they’ll be based on the celebrity hosts and judges we know and love. This only makes it seem even more cringey. Honestly, we don’t have high hopes for this. We’ll just keep watching the real show on Netflix instead.
