HBO Max Releases ‘Peacemaker’ Title Credits Sequence, Further Solidifying the Futility of the ‘Skip Intro’ Button

Peacemaker is already shaping up to be one of 2022’s best series. While the series had the potential to be unnecessary, the first three episodes proved how vital this show actually is. In many ways, Peacemaker is a show that we never knew we needed. Would we expect anything less from James Gunn?

Regardless, one of the best aspects of the show is arguably its opening title sequence, which only further solidifies the futility of the “skip intro” button. The aforementioned button has been a plague to shows that feature memorable opening sequences, such as Succession. but if the metric for a successful opening sequence is to set the mood for a show, then Peacemaker succeeds in a spectacular fashion.

In fact, the opening credits for the show are so popular that HBO Max decided to release the sequence online. If anything, it proves that the Peacemaker titles should be eligible for best picture.

The song featured in the sequence is “Do Ya Wanna Taste It,” by Wig Wam. Part of the reason why these opening titles are so effective is that they are perfectly emblematic of the title character. Peacemaker thinks he is way cooler than he actually is. So it feels more like something that takes place in his deranged mind than anything else. What makes this even funnier is the fact that the choreography plays into this very idea, especially with the serious expressions on everyone’s faces.

James Gunn is known for creating memorable title sequences, so it comes as no surprise that he completely nailed this one. It seems as if Gunn may have succeeded in his quest to eradicate the world of the “Skip intro” button. Ultimately, these opening titles are one of many reasons why Peacemaker is a show that you don’t want to sleep on.
