Warning: Dexter: New Blood spoilers ahead!
Fans were thrilled when the insanely popular Showtime series Dexter, which ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013, returned for a new season. It found everyone’s favorite sociopath reinvented as Jim Lindsay, a domesticated dude living in Iron Lake, New York.
Viewers were digging the latest chapter in Dexter’s life, and the series following the blood spatter analyst-cum-serial killer seemed like it might be back for good…until the season finale, “Sins of the Father,” ended with Dexter’s shocking death…at the hands (and gun) of his son.
“We knew this had to happen, and I think it had to happen for the audience as much as for the character,” showrunner Clyde Phillips told Deadline. “To see him get caught time and time again and get out of it at a time and time again is a disservice to the audience.”
