Once upon a time, Snoop Dogg quit smoking weed. But as the entire world can see from his bizarre cameo as presenter of the 2022 Golden Globes nominations, he’s not just back on the wagon, he’s hotboxing the shit out of it.
The Hollywood Foreign Press’s prestigious award show which only comes second only to the Oscars, included a characteristically diverse pack of nominees, with Power of the Dog leading the film pack at seven nominations and HBO’s Succession rising to the top of the TV heap with five.
Prestige notwithstanding, the Golden Globes is in a bit of upheaval this year, with broadcast partners NBC pulling the plug on airing the show due to “diversity issues” and Covid-19 casting a shadow over A-List attendance. Despite the setbacks, the fledgling show decidedly must go on and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose the perfect vessel to kick off the hullabaloo in West Coast icon Snoop Doggy Dog.
Snoop has been a linguistic wizard for over 30 years now, and as such, only he could spice up Ben Affleck’s name in such a new and profound way.
Other honorees of the Long Beach rapper’s dazzling tongue included directors Kenneth Branagh (nominated for Belfast) and Denis Villeneuve (nominated for Dune). Watch the master at work below. We dare you not to laugh.
