If you’re a child of the ’80s or ’90s, there was no bigger video game franchise than Super Mario Bros. From 1985 to 1990 Nintendo dropped Super Mario Bros. 1 through 3. While those aren’t even close to the only games to feature plumber brother Mario and Luigi, there’s no disputing the importance of this trilogy. While these three games were Nintendo Entertainment System games, 1990’s Super Mario World, released on Super Nintendo, really changed the game with hyped-up graphics and easier gameplay. Its popularity also led to the release of a feature film starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as the titular plumbers. It was a box office bomb and an utterly bizarre fever dream that many of us wish we could forget. Luckily, now we can.
That’s because it was recently announced that a new Super Mario Bros. movie would be dropping. This one is starring Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser. Luckily this will be an animated film as nobody wants to see a live-action reboot. But it does make us think about other video games we’d love to see adapted for the big screen. Keep scrolling to see our dream picks.
