Mel Gibson’s upcoming movie, Apocalypto, which was set to be released by Disney on December 8th, is now reportedly being shopped to other distributors, namely Lions Gate Films. The Canadian production company, which distributed Kevin Smith’s Dogma and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 after Disney bought Miramax and would not allow them to do so themselves, has Disney hoping they will take Apocalypto off their hands as well. However, despite the report, both parties are denying this is even happening. According to Disney spokesman, Heidi Trotta, this is “absolutely not true.”
Obviously, it wouldn’t be viable for Disney to sink any money into a movie after the only A-lister involved with it was arrested for a DUI and spit more Jewish hate than a Miami Denny’s manager at 4:00. Especially when that movie is a mythic historical drama set 600 years ago in which every word of dialogue is spoken in Yucatec Mayan. You’d have an easier time selling brain surgery bloopers.
