Ah, Snapchat. The latest millennial-driven social media craze that’s sweeping the Internet. What could be done with it that hasn’t already been done? Well, how about combining it with a video game franchise that’s now 22 years old?
More specifically, Pokémon. The classic monster-catching gaming powerhouse is all grown up and celebrating its birthday with a brand-new snapchat filter fashioned after the first Pokémon in the Pokédex, Bulbasaur. Apparently though this only the first of three filters planned. Not long after, Charmander will also be getting its own filter, and then Squirtle will follow after that. This makes sense, as choosing only one of the original three Kanto starters would seem a little unfair to fans of the others. One might even wonder if there’s a secret fourth filter that they’re holding off on featuring series mascot Pikachu, but this hasn’t been announced as of yet. It wouldn’t be shocking if it was though.
With the filters that have been announced so far, Snapchat users will be able to show off their Pokémania with their favorite first region starter as the Pokémon franchise celebrates a brand new year of expansion. They will only be able to do so for a limited time however, so it will be imperative that fans of the series hop to it before the filters are gone. Of course, there’s no reason to choose only one either if you’d rather use each of them. After all, Pokémon has always been about how you “gotta catch ‘em all” and these Snapchat filters are really no different in that respect. Whatever you decide to do, feel assured that the Pokémon franchise has a bright future ahead of it on the Switch and beyond and comforted in knowing that it will probably be around for a long, long time.
