HBO Films released the official video for their TV movie Paterno, starring Al Pacino, that will be available on HBO April 7th of this year. The story centers on college football coach Joe Paterno, who, after becoming the winningest coach in college football history, is entangled in Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

Sandusky was the assistant coach of Paterno at the Penn State University, and he was arrested and charged with 52 counts of sexual abuse of young boys from 1994 to 2009. The movie focuses on whether Paterno knew about the incidents and on other aspects of the national story like the journalist and victims involved.

Paterno is directed by Barry Levinson, who did movies like Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Rain Man (1988), Wag the Dog (1997). His last project was also a TV movie about a controversial topic, Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, starring the Yin to Pacino’s Yang – Robert de Niro.

Debora Cahn of West Wing and John C. Richards of Nurse Betty (2000) and Sahara (2005) are the writers behind the project that continues the streak of American true crime stories done in cinema and TV.
