Netflix further expanded its already vast originals section on their website by announcing the release date of their reboot of the 1960s’ sci-fi TV show Lost in Space with a teaser. We will be fully introduced to the new space-adventuring Robinson family on April 13th of this year, although we already saw the main characters in the teaser.
The announced series consists of 10 episodes and we can see that the Robinsons are leaving Earth due to a planetary problem. The most notable name in the upcoming Netflix series is Molly Parker, who will be playing the engineer/mother Maureen Robinson.
Here is the full official synopsis:
“Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith (Posey) is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but inadvertently charming Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) is a highly-skilled, blue-collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.”
The teaser looks like a housing insurance commercial from the future for the most part, but the last line would be enough to unleash the nostalgy in everyone who grew up on the original show.
For the majority of Netflix viewers, it will be the first time that they come across the Robinson family, although there was a Lost in Space movie in 1998 with a strong cast consisting of Gary Oldman, Matt LeBlanc, Heather Graham. Somehow, the movie was a huge disappointment.
