Stop the presses…may not be an expression heard much anymore in the digital media world, but neither is Funny or Die’s Between Two Ferns to be presented with Humanitarian Award.” Granted, that second one is a bit less of a common phrase associated with publishing and more just an actual news story, but it’s still a lot more accurate than the former.

Each year, the Venice Family Clinic holds its Silver Circle Gala in order to raise funds towards their mission of providing quality health care to those in need. As far as Mike Farah and Brad Jenkins of Funny or Die and Scott Aukerman and Zach Galifianakis of Between Two Ferns being honored with the Humanitarian Award for promoting the Affordable Care Act and social issues, the explanation comes straight from the source (a.k.a. VFC’s CEO Elizabeth Benson Forer):

With their clever and insightful videos explaining the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the creative minds at Funny or Die and Between Two Ferns played a vital role in the successful launch of the landmark law, which has since been hugely helpful to Venice Family Clinic and thousands of its patients.

In case you don’t recall, back in 2014, FoD and BTF worked directly with the White House to promote signing up for health insurance, becoming the biggest referrer to Healthcare.gov. They even had a guy pretty high up in the government stop by to help. See if the clip below rings any bells:

Along with Farah, Jenkins, Aukerman and Galifianakis, Joan E. Herman will leave the Silver Circle Gala on March 19 with the Irma Colen Leadership Award for his work as a member of the Board of Trustees at VFC since 2011, and as president and CEO of Herman and Associates, LLC. Until then, we might just watch the clip above a few more times to really get ourselves in a compassionate, charitable mindset. Yep, that’s the story we’re going with.
