Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that the New York-founded hip hop group, the Beastie Boys, will forever be ingrained in our culture with their effective mix of rap and rock music, delivering numerous hits including “No Sleep Till Brooklyn,” “Intergalactic,” “Sabotage” and “Brass Monkey“. After 21 largely successful years together, crafting new albums every 2-6 years with a total of eight albums released, the group disbanded in 2012 when vocalist/bassist Adam “MCA” Yauch passed away from cancer, choosing to honor his memory by not producing new music nor performing under the moniker Beastie Boys.
A year after his death, however, surviving members Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz announced they made a book deal to release a memoir about the group set for a fall 2015 release, but around that time, Horovitz said the release would be delayed, as they were enjoying the writing process and had a lot of stuff put together, but were still figuring out how to properly structure everything.
Following a couple years of delays, the group is finally ready to release the currently-untitled memoir in the fall of this year, with Diamond saying in an interview with Beats 1 that “it will be unlike any other music book.” There still isn’t much information known about the book or what it will entail, but Diamond offered that there will be a lot of “cultural history” involved to properly tell the story of how the group came to find their style and become the widely-celebrated artists that would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2012.
