According to numerous sources, Jimmy Iovine, one of the founders of Beats Electronic will leave the company later this year. This announcement surprised a lot of people, mostly because Iovine was considered the main reason why Apple even purchased the company. As soon as the payment of the staggering $3 billion dollar comes through in August, he will leave his position. Jimmy Iovine was an important figure in the world of music as his Interscope Records brought us some of the most popular rappers in the ’90s including Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre with whom Iovine founded Beats Electronics in 2006.
Jimmy Iovine’s Next Step
Although no one knows for sure, some believe that Iovine’s next step might actually be retiring. He’s 64 and has had numerous clashes with others at the company. This is why it’s unlikely that he will return even if they offer him a lot more money. One of the people he has had disagreements with is Eddy Cue, the person in charge of Apple’s services and the one responsible for the cooperation between them. Under Iovine’s leadership, Apple Music reached the amazing 30 million subscribers. Along with the “Planet of the Apps,” and “Carpool Karaoke,” Jimmy Iovine planned on revolutionizing the entire service. That’s what made his decision to leave that much more perplexing.
We have yet to see whether he will bring us something new unrestricted by Apple’s management, or will he truly hang the gloves after the $3 billion deal.
