If you feel like nobody understands your dark little daydreams, especially during the holidays, it could be because Daria, the most missed teen angst cartoon, is celebrating 20 years of deadpan humor (and 15 years of nothingness). Vast, pointless, black nothingness. Just like life. Black, black, black…Or it could just be that you suck.
Anybody who didn’t understand sarcasm in the late ’90s had a hard time relating to the monotone sound of deadpan Daria Morgendorffer. An introverted teen so unintentionally exhilarating that she basically became the first hipster, Daria was an MTV pop culture icon in a time of Britney Spears, boy bands and other terrible ideas. Co-creator Susie Lewis spoke on the show’s 20th anniversary, how a lot of Daria’s humor is timeless, which makes us wonder what she’d be like as an adult woman, especially today.
Check out these 20 classic Daria GIFs and reinvigorate yourself with abrasive animated humor, the meaninglessness of life, the truth about how people suck, the importance of being alone and the art of never trying. This is Daria, and she’s our spirit animal for life. Pointless, pointless life.
