I was really, really hoping to come across more positive news before New Years. But of course we have people fighting over cookies. And now we have possibly rabid raccoons trying to eat babies.
At least such is the case if you live in north Philly.
According to local reports, a four-month old baby named Journi Black had to get 65 stitches across her face after a raccoon got hold of her Wednesday night. The baby wasn’t in a park. She wasn’t in her stroller. She wasn’t even outside. She was all cozy inside her bed inside a small north Philadelphia apartment.
“I thought it was a nightmare when I heard over the phone,” the girl’s father Samuel Black said, according to Fox 29 Philadelphia. “My heart dropped. I didn’t know what to say, what to think.”
The attack reportedly happened whilst the girl’s mother, Ashley Rodgers, was out of the room taking her other daughter to the bathroom. When she returned, she saw the aftermath of the attack. “She was laying on the floor— across the room — blood all over her face and her pjs,” Rodgers told Fox 29.

So let’s get this straight. Neighbors have been complaining sometime about a raccoon infestation and the ‘landlord’ appears to be more of a slum-lord who has no legal rights over the building??

Update: A GoFundMe page set up to help the family of Journi Black has reeled in over $20,000 — crushing the original fundraising goal of $2,000. The campaign is to help find Journi and her family a new home to rent.
