Hey Florida, you OK?

Officer Jon Cusack, a 20-year veteran of the Pembroke Pines police force, recently responded to a call about two people passed out inside a car. Cusack approached the car, put on some gloves expecting to go through drugs in the car and then asked for the driver’s ID when the driver woke up.

Well, Cusack didn’t get an ID, instead he got quite the wild ride as the driver, identified as 38-year-old Thomas Cabrera, accelerated, leaving Cusack hanging off the car door as it reached high speeds.

Check out the crazy video below. The chaos kicks off around 0:40.

Here’s how how the Pembroke Pines police department described Cusack’s escape on YouTube:

When the suspect finally slowed his speed as he approached the Century Village exit located at 129 Avenue and Pembroke Road, our officer determined this to be the safest opportunity for him to release his hold and to roll away from the vehicle’s tires. Our injured officer was immediately attended to by a backup officer and Fire-Rescue, and he was trauma alerted to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Cabrera led cops on a 20-mile high speed chase before finally being caught. He later admitted to using heroin and cocaine that day.

Cabrera now faces charges of attempted murder of an officer, fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended license.
