If you’re an avid gamer, I have some good news for you — your brain is bigger than all those donks who hate on you for being really good at your craft.
Researchers have been logging on and doing God’s work by giving us some vital information to rub in the faces of anyone who thinks video games are a waste of time.
According to their study, researchers at the University of York have linked being good at certain games to having a high IQ. They took two games that are ridiculously popular — League of Legends and Defense of the Ancients 2 — and compared the gameplay of those who did really well with their corresponding IQ tests. The results revealed that gamers who kicked ass also had high IQ scores, which basically confirms nerds have all along had superior brains.
These games tend to be more complex than other titles. They call for more intellect and social interaction, according to one of the researchers, and he suggested that your outstanding performance in the games means you’re probably super smart, like someone who plays chess of something.
Gamers have been getting some great news lately based on studies. First we find out we last longer in bed, and now this. What a time to be alive.
“Games such as League of Legends and DOTA 2 are complex, socially-interactive and intellectually demanding,” said Dr. Alex Wade, one of the researchers at the school’s Department of Psychology and Digital Creativity Labs. “Our research would suggest that your performance in these games can be a measure of intelligence.”
So there you have it. Gaming can be a way of proving how much smarter you are than everyone else. Enjoy those big ol’ brain cells and dominate the online arena.
